Artwork File Requirement (3 Steps)

*All commercial printers (Not only Grabprinting) will only recommend Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. Any 3rd party design software or Microsoft Products are using RGB colour and not CMYK.

  1. Colour
  2. Images
  3. Text

Colour;

  1. In CMYK colour mode
    1. Why commercial printers use CMYK (Photoshop) and not RGB (Words, paint, powerpoint and etc) ? (Article)
    2. Convert RBG to CMYK (Video)
    3. Select CMYK in Photoshop (Video)
  2. Always refer to our CMYK colour reference kit to reduce colour inaccuracies in your printing.
    1. Do not depend entirely on the colour displayed on your monitor or screen as printed colour of end product may differ from what appears on screen.
  3. Avoid Setting colour tints (toning) lower than 10%
    1. Lighter shades usually print much lighter than they appear on screen and you may be disappointed with the outcome.
  4. DO NOT set black colour to (C=100, M=100, Y=100 and K=100)
    1. Too much ink coverage may cause dirty printing such as sheet sticking together or causes text or image to look blur
    2. Ideal setting for black colour
      1. C=40, M=30, Y=30 and K=100
      2. C=40, M=0, Y=0 and K=100
  5. CMYK must not be more than 240%
  6. In order to make your toning/tint clearer, make sure value of the same colour must be different of more than 10%

Images;

  1. In CMYK colour mode
    1. Why commercial printers use CMYK (Photoshop) and not RGB (Words, paint, powerpoint and etc) ? (Article)
    2. Convert RBG to CMYK (Video)
    3. Select CMYK in Photoshop (Video)
  2. Artwork’s resolution image(s) more than 300dpi
    1. How to change DPI of an image in photoshop ? (Video)
    2. Difference between 72dpi and 300dpi? (Article)
  3. DO NOT manipulate your images using a layout program
    1. You are advised to use Adobe photoshop to manipulate your images
      1. Wrap images in photoshop (Article)
  4. Important images must be at least 4mm to 6mm from all edges to prevent trimming away.

Texts;

  1. Min font size 4pts – Min font size for photoshop. (Article)
    1. White text on a coloured or black background
    2. Light coloured text on white background
    3. Front types that have thin lines
    4. Reverse printing (white text on coloured background made up of a combination of 2 or more CMYK colour value)
      1. All wordings that consist font size less than 5 and without BOLD, must add outline to reduce the wording blurry problem
    5. When you are working on white background with Black text and line, you must use only K100 only
      1. Setting solid black in photoshop? (Article)
  2. Layout Program
    1. Curve / Create Outline / Path all the fonts before you convert your artwork file to PDF file format
      1. Covert text to outline (Video)
    2. For Adobe Photoshop; Set resolution to or above 300dpi and Rasterise type before you save as PDF file format.
      1. We advise against setting text using Photoshop as the text will not be nearly as clear as setting text in a layout program
  3. Important texts must be at least 4mm to 6mm from all edges to prevent trimming away.

  1. Print files are BIG.

    1. One of the most common delays in a poster printing job is caused by work being sent back by the printer because the resolution was too low. Files destined for print should be set to 300dpi. DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. Simply put the more dots to make up the image the higher the resolution. More printed dots in an inch means higher quality reproduction.

    3. When resolutions are too low the end result can be a blurred and pixelated poster. In Photoshop you can set the dots per inch on creating a new document File>new and entering 300 in the Resolution box.
  2. Make sure files are save in the RIGHT size of the product

    1. Add bleed to all your artwork so we will know where to trim. Click here to see our bleed and trim guide.
  3. The importance of spellcheck

    1. We are not liable for any spelling errors as we only print whatever artwork that is provided by you. SPELLCHECK now before submit to us 🙂
  4. The most preferred file type will be pdf
